Verifying Your Google Sitemap

A normal sitemap is in HTML format and is designed to be read by browsers and by human readers. A Google Sitemap is in XML format and is designed to be read by Google's spider, and not by a human readers.  XSitePro automatically creates a Google Sitemap for you - as long as you have the "Create Google Sitemap" check-marked on the Google Sitemap section on the "other" tab.

Setting Up Google Site Map in XSitePro Version 1

Before verifying the Google Sitemap, go to the other tab and click on Google Sitemap (Power Pack). Next click on "Priorities and Exclusions" and choose which pages to exclude from the Google Sitemap and which pages to set at a different priority.

Now click on "Update Frequency" and decide how often you think you will be updating your pages.

Now we can Verify.

  1. Follow steps 4 thru 6 in the "Google Sitemap" section on the "Other" tab.
  2. When you go to Google you should now see your sitemap listed with a "verify" next to it.
  3. Click on "Verify" and Google will give you a page name that you need to create in XSitePro.  It will look something like this - GOOGLE59c8f6d4b1234123.html
  4. Next, go to XSitePro and create a new page and call it the name that Google gave you. (copy and paste)
  5. On the new page, on the info tab, I only have "Publish this Page" and "Ignore Page Layout" check-marked.
  6. Now click "Save" and "Publish".
  7. Go back to Google and click "Verify" and if they see your new page it will be verified.  If not, go back and check the page name and make sure it is exactly like the page name that google gave you.

Jason,

I just wanted to say thank you for the great design and service. Not only did you build a great looking header for my website, but you went out of your way to help me with some technical issues as well. I couldn’t ask for better service. Keep up the great work!
